Rear view mirror
2023-10-21
In order to facilitate driver operation, prevent driving safety accidents, and ensure personal safety, various countries have stipulated that rearview mirrors must be installed on cars, and all rearview mirrors must be able to adjust their direction.
On July 1, 2023, the national standard GB15084-2022, "Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Vision Devices of Motor Vehicles," was officially implemented. This new national standard added content such as "Camera Monitor System (CMS)" and "Mirror and CMS Dual Function System". This means that cars can be equipped with electronic rearview mirrors to replace traditional optical rearview mirrors on the road.

1.History
Starting from July 1, 2023, the "Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Vision Devices of Motor Vehicles" (referred to as the new national standard) has been officially implemented. This new national standard has added the technical requirements for the Camera Monitor System (CMS), which means that cars will soon be equipped with electronic rearview mirrors to replace traditional optical rearview mirrors on the road.
2.Type
Classification by installation location
1. Interior rearview mirror: Interior rearview mirror is a mirror used to confirm the rear view without significantly changing the forward line of sight during driving.

2. Exterior rearview mirror: Passenger cars generally install the exterior rearview mirror on the door. There are also vehicles installed on the fenders in Japan.

3. Underview mirror: Underview mirror allows the driver to see areas outside the front and rear wheels of the car body directly in front of the driver's seat. It allows the driver to see whether there are people or obstacles near the front and rear wheels and the car body when reversing and starting to move forward, in order to avoid injuries, objects, and damage to the vehicle, providing convenience and safety for the driver.

Classification by mirror shape
It can be divided into three major series: planar mirrors, spherical mirrors, and hyperbolic mirrors. There is also a type of prism, which has a flat surface but a prismatic cross-section and is commonly used as an anti glare interior rearview mirror.
Classification based on the reflective film material used in mirror making
It can be divided into four types: aluminum mirror, chrome mirror, silver mirror, and blue mirror (coated).

Classified by the adjustment method of the rearview mirror
It can be divided into two types: external adjustment and internal adjustment.
1. External adjustment is a method of adjusting the viewing angle by directly adjusting the position of the mirror frame or surface by hand during parking. This method is time-consuming, laborious, and difficult to complete at once. The driver needs to extend their hand from the seat outside the window for adjustment, which is inconvenient in driving, rainy days, and other situations. Generally, large cars, trucks, and low-end buses use external adjustment to reduce costs.
2. In car adjustment provides convenient conditions for the driver to adjust the rear-view mirror and observe the rear-view field during driving. Most mid to high-end sedans use interior adjustment. This method is further divided into two types: manual adjustment (wire rope transmission adjustment or handle adjustment) and electric adjustment.
Due to the fact that the position of the rearview mirror directly affects whether the driver can observe the situation behind the car, it is difficult for the driver to adjust its position, especially the rearview mirror on the side of the front passenger door. Therefore, the rearview mirrors of modern cars are mostly electric and operated by an electrical control system.

3.Anti dazzling
When illuminated by the headlights of the rear car at night, the reflected light from the rearview mirror enters the driver's eye, which is prone to causing a dazzling state. Therefore, an anti glare interior rearview mirror has been developed. The anti glare interior rearview mirror can be roughly divided into two types:
(1) Low cost and mainstream interior rearview mirror with a wedge shaped cross-section;
(2) From the perspective of functional utility, an interior rearview mirror that uses electrically controlled color light-emitting elements or liquid crystal elements is only used when necessary.
The anti glare electric rearview mirror consists of a special electrochemical layer mirror surface, two photoelectric sensors, and an electronic controller. The electronic controller receives the light intensity signal transmitted by the photosensitive diode. If the rear lights are stronger than the front lights, the electronic controller will output a voltage to the mirror surface, changing the color of the mirror surface electrochemical layer. The higher the voltage, the greater the change in the color of the electrochemical layer. After the color of the electrified layer changes, the light reflected to the driver's eyes through the electric rearview mirror is significantly reduced, which not only does not affect the driver's vision, but also improves the comfort and safety of driving and riding the vehicle.
